Dove Cottage
Former home of William Wordsworth the romantic poet. The cottage houses many interesting artefacts from Wordsworth's time there including his passport, his bed and many other objects. Guided tours take you around the cottage and the garden is also open to the public, weather permitting.
Grasmere & Wordsworth Museum
Entry to Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum is gained by one ticket, which can be purchased in the Wordsworth Trust Shop. The Wordsworth museum houses many collections of manuscripts, artefacts and art from Wordsworth's time and by his acquaintances. The ticket also includes a guided tour of Dove Cottage, entry to the special exhibition and entry to the 3°W Gallery.
The Wordsworth Trust also runs a series of Summer Poetry Readings, held each Tuesday Evening, with some great names appearing such as John Cooper Clarke and Seamus Heaney.
Heaton Cooper Studio
The famous art gallery in Grasmere is devoted to the works of the Heaton Cooper family of artists and you are assured of a warm welcome if you join the thousands of visitors who every year find in the exhibition images of quality and value to remind them of the Lakeland landscape.
Walking (Easedale Tarn, Loughrigg, Alcock Tarn).
There are many outstanding walks around the Grasmere area, from easy; low level walks for all the family to some serious hikes up Helvellyn and Scar Pike for the more experienced walker.
A comprehensive range of maps and walking guides are available from the Visitor Information Point next to the hotel reception.
Lake Grasmere
Enjoy a cup of tea at Faeryland Tea gardens where you can also hire a boat. On a fine day why not have a family picnic by the shores. An easy, low-level path follows the lakeside so you can stroll along the shore.
Fishing permits for Grasmere and Rydal are available in the village. Both lakes contain pike, perch and roach.
